Jonathan Fuentes
Jonathan Fuentes' works are inspired by modern art, contemporary pop culture, and his experiences as a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Fuentes’ belief in “taking the silly seriously” is evident in his current medium of choice, mixed media collage, using unconventional materials for freedom of play and experimentation.
In 2023, Jonathan earned a BA in Art from the University of the District of Columbia with a concentration in Graphic Design. The same year, he delivered his first solo exhibition, ”Unhinged” showcasing mixed media works, digital designs, and sculpture. Since graduating, he has continued to show his work at DMV venues including Rhizome and Touchstone Gallery, where he is a TFA fellow through 2026.

FULL BUSH
Mixed media collage, 31” x 24”
Jonathan has always been drawn to the natural world. His fascination with animals easily found its way into his artwork, where the animal representations became stand-ins for people. Exaggerating these human characteristics through animal imagery gives his work a playful and insightful quality. The piece FULL BUSH includes a woolly mammoth and some of the famously misconstrued transgenic mice.
