Nikki Brooks
Nikki Brooks art experience spans over 25 years with a B.F.A from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.F.A from Maryland Institute College of Art: she is a multi-disciplinary artist that works specifically in installations and assemblage that are infused with digital and audio elements, paintings, sculpted text, and collage spaces. These works encourage the viewer to connect in forms of writing, storytelling, and shared dialogue through workshops that focus on diversity, inclusion, truth- telling and lament.

Many of Nikki’s artworks depict figures from LGBTQ+ and Civil Rights history. She has created works honoring the legacy of Martha P. Johnson, Shirley Chilsom, Angela Davis, and more. Included in this exhibition is Fannie Lou Hammer: activist, community organizer, and leader of the civil rights movement, who stated: “Until I am free, you are not free either”
