Brooklyn Rando
Brooklyn Rando was born into a family of artisans, and has been exhibiting alongside their father and grandfather at a young age. Brooklyn has grown up continuously exposed to the creative process. Whether it was assisting their father as a child on his adventurous and boundary pushing idea of taking his own public art pieces, which were his creative versions of strollers carved from wood, into museums like the MoMA. Brooklyn uses their art to explore their gender ambiguity.
Brooklyn is an investigative artist who explores multiple mediums, sculpting hair, photography, drawing, and painting. Bringing awareness to what a non-binary individual experiences with themselves and in an alienating society. They use the meditative practice of drawing Queer experiences, to better help understand and navigate who they are in this world. Responding naturally to the flow of life, Brooklyn’s work is a reminder to oneself to always try and be present within your body. That goes for any gender, but Brooklyn’s main goal is to provide a safe space for trans, non-binary and Queer people. LGBTQ+ adolescents are taught at such a young age to be ashamed of who they are, and everything they stand for. Queerness begs us to face parts of ourselves that have been deemed shameful and unloveable. Brooklyn creates the art that they do, for the kids who don’t have anyone to tell them it’s perfectly okay to be different. Incorporating their transition into their life’s work allowing them to use their art to actualize their life’s potential.
